Educational purpose only

Everything published by The Algo Bench, including articles, backtests, tearsheets, code, charts, videos and emails, is for educational and informational purposes only. It describes how systematic trading strategies can be designed, tested and evaluated.

Nothing published by The Algo Bench is investment advice, research analysis, a recommendation, or an offer or solicitation to buy, sell or hold any security, derivative or other financial instrument. Nothing here considers your financial situation, objectives or risk tolerance.

Not registered with SEBI

The Algo Bench and its author are not registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as an Investment Adviser, Research Analyst, or in any other capacity, and they are not empanelled with any stock exchange as an algo provider. We do not provide personalised advice, trading signals, trade calls or managed strategies.

Before making any investment or trading decision, consult a SEBI-registered Investment Adviser or other qualified professional.

Historical data only

Published research uses market data that is at least three months old. We do not comment on current or live market prices, levels or setups, and no content should be read as an indication of what to trade now.

Hypothetical and backtested results

Most results on this site are hypothetical. They come from applying rules to historical data, not from actual trading. Hypothetical results have inherent limits:

  • They are prepared with the benefit of hindsight.
  • No real money was at risk, so they don’t reflect the effect of real trading on decisions.
  • Costs, slippage, liquidity, margin requirements and execution delays are modelled, and the models may be wrong.
  • Market structure, regulation, taxes, contract specifications and charges change over time.
  • Many strategies that look good in a backtest do poorly in live trading.

Past performance, whether actual or hypothetical, does not indicate future results. No representation is made that any strategy will or is likely to achieve results similar to those shown.

Derivatives carry substantial risk

Futures and options trading involves substantial risk, and losses can exceed the capital deployed. SEBI’s own studies of equity F&O trading have found that a large majority (around nine in ten) of individual traders incurred net losses. Only trade with money you can afford to lose, and only after understanding the risks.

Our own trading

The author trades their own capital using systematic strategies and otherwise, some of which may be similar to those discussed here. The author may hold, or have held, positions in instruments mentioned on this site. We do not trade around publication, and published research uses data at least three months old, but you should be aware of this.

Code and tools

Code, templates and tools are provided “as is” for learning, without warranty of any kind. Broker APIs, exchange rules and data formats change. Test anything thoroughly, including with paper trading, before using it with real money. You are solely responsible for orders placed by any system you run.

Accuracy

We work hard to get things right but cannot guarantee that any content is accurate, complete or current. Errors are corrected as described in our methodology. We are not obliged to update content after publication.

No liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Algo Bench and its author are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from your use of, or reliance on, any content, code or tool provided.

Affiliations and sponsorship

At the time of writing, The Algo Bench receives no payment from brokers, exchanges or product providers for any content. If that changes, affiliate links and sponsored content will be clearly labelled.

Credit for strategies

Many strategies published on The Algo Bench come from other traders, authors, books or public sources. We don’t claim to have invented them. Our backtests, analysis and verdicts show how a particular set of rules performed on our data and under our assumptions. They are not intended to discredit any strategy or its originator, whose own version, data or way of trading it may differ from what we tested.
